Who keeps this sheet Future Tempo is a plain-English weather zine edited by a small team in Osaka. This sheet explains, in the same plain English, what personal information reaches us and what we do with it, in line with Japan's Act on the Protection of Personal Information (APPI).

Reading the forecasts You can read every clipping without telling us anything. There is no sign-in, no location request and no weather widget that asks where you are.
Our host's servers log the basics every browser sends (IP address, browser, the page and the time) to keep the site up and to block abusive traffic. Those logs are not used to work out who you are or where you live.

When you write to us The contact form hands your message to your own email app; nothing is sent until you press Send there. We then receive your name, your email address, the optional phone number if you typed one, and your message.
Letters sent straight to editorial@future-tempo.com, and calls to +81 6-6761-7855, are treated the same way.

What we use it for Checking a figure against the JMA data it came from, fixing a credit line, removing a clipping at a publisher's request, or answering a reader's question about a forecast. We do not add anyone to a mailing list, and letters never shape what the site shows to you.

Where you are Readers sometimes tell us where they live or are heading so they can ask about local conditions. We use that only to answer and never publish it. For anything urgent we point you to the JMA and your municipality instead of offering a personal forecast.

Who handles it Only the editors answering your letter read it. Our email and hosting providers store it on our behalf; where any of them keep data outside Japan, we use services that protect it to the standard the APPI expects.
We do not sell or trade personal information, and we share it with authorities only when Japanese law requires.

How long it stays Letters about corrections are kept for eighteen months, long enough to answer follow-up questions when the same season comes round again. Everything else is deleted once the conversation is finished, and after one year at the latest. Server logs rotate after roughly a month.

Your rights Under the APPI you can ask to see what we hold about you, ask us to correct or delete it, or ask us to stop using it. Email editorial@future-tempo.com from the address you wrote from; we reply within two business days and do not charge.

If something goes wrong If a mailbox or server holding reader letters were ever compromised, we would tell the readers affected and report to the Personal Information Protection Commission whenever the law requires it.

Readers abroad Plenty of letters come from people planning a trip, a climb or a harvest from outside Japan. We are based in Osaka, so the APPI is the law we follow; if your own country's law, the GDPR for example, gives you a further right over your data, ask and we will treat the request in the same spirit.

Children and classrooms Teachers sometimes use our typhoon and seasonal pages in class. The site itself is not aimed at children, and we do not knowingly keep letters from anyone under 16. If a student writes to us, we answer briefly and delete the message once the question is settled.

Updates to this sheet When this page changes, the pressed date at the top changes with it. We have no plans to add tracking or advertising; if that ever changes, this sheet will say so first.
